This week we are blogging about an experiment that we need to conduct utilizing conformation inquiry process this is really exciting, I think I will conduct the experiment and have a group of fifth graders do the same, we can share our projects together....
I can also present to them the effects of global warming and how we can all do our part to save energy.
For this weeks blog my professor presented some thought provoking questions:
What happens if the polar Ice caps melt?
A basic prediction that I could formulate based on my knowledge of the size and mass of Ice caps is that the result of an ice cap melting would cause oceans to overflow, possibly creating flooding and turning most of the surrounding land into a marsh like area. I plan on conducting research momentarly to test my initial prediction......
I will return shrtly with the results......
I also was struggling to answer that question because to be honest I really don't know what will happen. I think that it is a question that seems so far off that we often don't take the time to consider that it is a reality! It seems so overwhelming that I think many people tune it out. However, we all need to consider our role in doing what we can to slow this process down... every bit helps!
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the melting of the ice caps is going to cause an increase in global temperatures, this will in turn cause an increase in breeding. I just viewed an NRDC article on the melting of the ice caps, it was very informative. I'm going to post the website so we can view some of scientist latest research with regard to the underlying effects of the rapidly melting ice caps in the Arctic region.
